Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero is an American actor, singer, and model. She is known for co-starring in the film of Prince's Purple Rain and for having been the main singer for the group of girls Apollonia 6. The singer and actress who was christened Apollonia by Prince and became one of a number of female musicians in the '80s who benefited from her relationship with the Purple One. Patricia Kotero, born 1959 in Santa Monica California began her career as a model and actress. The latter part of the 70s was when she appeared on CHiPS. In 1984, the actress was chosen to play the lead lady in Prince's Purple Rain. (During this period, she also changed her name.) She then replaced Vanity of the female group Vanity 6 who performed in the film with Apollonia 6 under their name. Sex Shooter, a minor smash hit from the soundtrack was her biggest chart success. Kotero and Prince were at odds about her future professional career. Apollonia6 split, Kotero was not able to continue her relationship with Prince. She was later seen in several minor films during this time (reportedly declining to appear as a character in The Purple Rain follow-up Under the Cherry Moon) prior to landing an appearance on the evening-time show Falcon Crest during 1985-1986. Apollonia made her debut album in 1988, however it was an average mix of dance and R&B music which did not impress the public. The album quickly disappeared out of sight. She remained active (if somewhat under the radar) in the role of actress throughout the ensuing decade with small TV roles as well as minor film and released the exercise film. Apollonia published a Spanish/English CD named Stay With Me in 1997. After returning to school, she and received a degree in making films.
